  • Joel R. Sevinsky

    Director, President

    Dr. Sevinsky has leveraged over two decades of experience in systems biology and has taken aim at transforming public health and infectious disease surveillance through innovative implementation of NGS and bioinformatics technologies. During a three-year tenure at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, he led several initiatives to build NGS testing and bioinformatics capacity at the state, regional, and national levels.

    ‍In 2019 Dr. Sevinsky’s ambitions to impact public health exceeded his role as a government scientist, resulting in the formation of Theiagen Genomics.

  • Gregory Armstrong

    Director

    Gregory Armstrong, MD, is a medical epidemiologist with over 25 years of experience in public health.  Trained as an infectious disease physician, he held various positions at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention between 1997 and 2022 in areas such as infectious hepatitis, viral vaccine-preventable diseases, refugee health, polio eradication, and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.  He also played leadership roles in CDC’s response to several large public-health emergencies, including the 2001 anthrax releases, the 2003 SARS outbreak, 2014-2016 West Africa Ebola outbreak, and the H1 influenza and COVID-19 pandemics.  From 2015 through his retirement from CDC in 2022, he was the inaugural director of the agency’s Advanced Molecular Detection Program, focused on bringing modern pathogen genomics into the US public health system.  Since 2022, Dr. Armstrong currently has worked as an independent consultant for a variety of entities, including in the private sector, non-profits, and the World Health Organization.  He has particular expertise in the practical applications of genomic technologies to public health, both domestically and internationally.  Dr. Armstrong is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America.

    Marcela Huergo is a business executive with over 20 years of experience in large corporations, start-ups, and consulting firms, helping businesses and clients expand into new markets and products and scaling operations. Her industries of expertise include health care, retail banking, automotive, logistics, and real estate. 

    Marcela leverages her extensive multi-industry skills to provide strategic advice on product management, operational excellence, and strategic projects. Marcela acts as the liaison between all corporate stakeholders, ensuring organizational alignment and leading crisis management.

    Gregory S. Legacki has a passion for innovation and strategic leadership. His dynamic career, which  spans pioneering start-ups to leading operations in large government organizations, has informed his ability to drive positive change and deliver results.

    Gregory’s innovation mindset, which combines strong leadership skills with a unique balance of critical and creative thinking has led to the development of ground-breaking solutions that have redefined operational success. He is passionate about creating value through excellence and is always eager to embrace new challenges and opportunities.

    Nawaal is a seasoned project manager and grants specialist with over a decade of experience in securing and managing high-value funding partnerships. Nawaal has managed over 20 projects across diverse sectors, including public health, corporate social responsibility, and community development.

    Nawaal’s leadership extends to managing diverse teams, facilitating workshops, and developing organizational structures for non-profits. Her ability to combine operational excellence with strategic vision ensures impactful outcomes for every project she leads.
